3 Facebook Post Ideas For Local Businesses

facebook marketing for local businessesOne of the biggest questions I get asked by local business owners like yourself is “What should I post on Facebook?”

Some want to simply promote deals, spam specials (they usually aren’t really specials) that are going on, or something similar.

Don’t do that…

Use radio, TV, print and other traditional sources to yell at your audience.

Your audience on the Internet and specifically social channels such as Facebook want to interact with your business, get inside news and compete in contests that offer discounts or giveaways.

So what should you post on Facebook? Post what the people want!

Your goal is to get your brand logo and name seen more often in the Facebook news feed.

If you use the tactics below, your post lifeline can be extended from 20-30min to 12-24hours. Posts that don’t get interaction die, and they die fast.

Ask and You Shall Receive

Your brand is unique, you do something that no one else does in town and that is why you are still in business.

Most of your customers know this and they LIKE this. Yes, they like that you add a splash of soy sauce and a sprinkle of paprika to your steamed rice.

what local businesses should post to facebook

You can easily pull out your cell phone and snap a pic. DO IT!

They may not know that you add those specific ingredients but they do know they LIKE your steamed rice more than any other steamed rice in town.

So go ahead and ask them to show you that they like this:

  • “Like” this post if you love our steamed rice!
  • If you love our steamed rice you should like this post!
  • Want to know how we make our awesome steamed rice?
“Like” this post and we might tell you!

All these work. You need to put your own fun twist on the post to show your company’s personality but you get the general idea.

If You Scratch My Back, I’ll Scratch Yours

People love free stuff and they really love when you make them work for the free stuff. It’s true.

Your business has a lot of great things going for it that medium and large sized businesses don’t have, nimbleness.

If you have gift cards, great! If you don’t jump on Microsoft word and make a couple generic ones.

Now post the following on Facebook:

  • If this post gets 100 “Likes” we’ll give away 3 Gift Certificates for $15 to people who liked it!
  • “Share” this post and we’ll enter you in to win a $15 Gift Card. 5 cards up for grabs!
  • Want a $15 Gift Card? Leave a “yes” in the comments below and we’ll enter you in to win!

Now, be careful with the above because technically you aren’t operating within Facebooks guidelines. So use this tactic at your own risk.

I’ve been doing it for the past 4 years and have yet to run into a problem. Just don’t make this a weekly thing.
